The Scientific Method—an ordered approach for determining the validity of a hypothesis, relying on data/experiments to make a very specific conclusion

Index (not to be confused with “index” in the back of a book)—a list of Church-prohibited books

Inquisition (literally “that which enquires into”)—an organization associated with the Church that investigated possible “heretics,” those who claimed to practice the Catholic faith but actually betrayed that faith—the most powerful branches of the Inquisition were in Spain and in Italy

Epistemology—the philosophical field exploring the assumptions of what is “true” and what is “provable”
